Google Web Story: Decoding North Korea

by | Dec 1, 2020 | Google Amp Stories, Laboratory

During the early negotiations between President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, we noticed significant public interest in learning more about Kim Jong Un via Google Trends.

People were curious about his background and what to expect from the negotiations. In response, we created a Google Web Story about Kim Jong Un, compiling all the available information on him—which, given North Korea’s opacity, was admittedly limited. We designed the story to give readers the feel of receiving their own intelligence report.

This project was developed as a Google Web Story, previously known as Google AMP Stories. These are visually rich narratives optimized for mobile devices. They can be thought of as similar to Instagram Stories, but they reside on your website, are accessible to search engine indexing, and allow for links on each slide. This makes them an effective tool for engaging a mobile-first audience.

The slides for this story were animated using After Effects.

Please note, these stories are optimized for viewing on a mobile phone and might appear misformatted on desktop computers.
